Unfortunately, we did not secure the Democratic nomination for Florida Attorney General in yesterday’s primary election — but that doesn’t mean that the fight to hold Ron DeSantis and Ashley Moody accountable is over. I want to congratulate Aramis Ayala, and I will do everything I can to help her defeat Ashley Moody this fall.

First, I want to thank you for your support in helping build our people-powered campaign that received nearly 400,000 votes in yesterday’s election. We didn’t have corporate special interests powering our campaign — it was powered by grassroots supporters like you, and I will be forever grateful for your support.

Now, we must do everything we can to support the Democratic ticket here in Florida to continue our mission to restore justice and accountability to our state. We must crack down on corruption and greedy corporations raking in record profits on the backs of hardworking Floridians, while DeSantis and Moody have done nothing to help.

Though we didn’t come out on top last night, I’m not going anywhere. I will do everything I can to ensure DeSantis and Moody are held accountable at the ballot box this fall. And whenever I see an injustice, I won’t hesitate to call it out and take action like I’ve done all my life. You’ll be hearing from me, I’m sure, about innovative ways we can fight together and make a difference.

Whether it’s a decade-long fight to take down the Confederate flag that was flying above my local court house in the Panhandle, or dawning a grim reaper costume to warn Floridians about DeSantis’ dangerous COVID policies, to bringing the costume out of retirement as I toured the state highlighting the economic pain Floridians are feeling as they’re getting raked over the coals by price gougers — if you know one thing about me, it’s that I don’t back down from fighting for what’s right.

Though I won’t be taking on Ashley Moody at the ballot box this fall, the fight continues to ensure the people of Florida are served by elected officials who truly care about them and their well-being. I hope I can count on you to stand alongside me, because this is a fight we must win.

You haven’t seen the last of me, and DeSantis and Moody haven’t either.
