As the final votes are tallied and absentees opened in the coming days, I wanted to take a moment and thank each and every one of you for participating in the electoral process. Running for office is not an easy thing and although we are disappointed in the results, I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to meet old and new friends to talk about what issues matter the most, and the end of a campaign shouldn’t stop those conversations from happening.
I congratulate Congressman Bowman on his primary win, look forward to working with him, and hope that he will address the issues highlighted by our challenge. We will pull together, as Democrats must, in preparation for the November general election.
Thank you to my campaign team for working so incredibly hard to get our message out, recruited volunteers, and made sure that every voter had a voice in this election. And my deepest gratitude to the volunteers and supporters who gave so much of themselves in these past weeks. We had only half of the time, and yet we ran a competitive campaign that returned the most votes by far for the investment in time and money, than anyone in the race. This was possible because of you.
Thank you to my husband, David, for being there for me and our family. You’ve been a comfort, provided counsel, and been by my side on this journey and I couldn’t be more grateful that we have you in our lives.
Our democracy works when we all participate and despite the challenges set in front of us, when conditions were never ideal, you all still showed up. And that’s what I can promise you, I’m going to always show up. I hope to see you out there.
