“Highly respected Kristina Karamo has my Complete and Total Endorsement to run for Secretary of State of the Great State of Michigan! …Good luck, Kristina, and while you’re at it, check out the Fake Election results that took place in the city of Detroit.”

That’s what Trump said when he endorsed Kristina Karamo for Michigan Secretary of State last September. 

If you’re not familiar with the name, allow us to explain. She was a community college professor and private citizen up until the 2020 election, when she made a name for herself as a vehement election liar. 

Despite having absolutely no evidence to back up her claims, she still testified to Michigan state lawmakers that, as a poll watcher in Detroit, she saw rampant election fraud—and then took to social media to claim that Donald Trump won Michigan, where Joe Biden actually beat Trump by over 154,000 votes.  

Her testimony has since been debunked and a Republican-led state Senate investigation into Michigan's election found "no evidence of widespread or systematic fraud." But her lies won her the endorsement of Donald Trump in her run for Secretary of State, who praised her continued support of his Big Lie. 

Now, she’s the Michigan Republican Party’s pick for Secretary of State. 

MAGA Republicans aren’t even trying to hide it. They’re looking for candidates who, once in office, will cry election fraud then overturn the election results to suit their chosen candidates.

We can’t let them get away with it. Spread the word: Put Karamo and other election-denying candidates on blast by encouraging your friends and family to send a letter to the editor of their local paper, telling their communities what’s at stake in this election.

Even if you’re not a Michigander, Kristina Karamo’s nomination is a canary in the coal mine for our democracy. Should she become Secretary of State, she could decline to sign Michigan’s certificate of electors and throw our elections into chaos. 

It’s exactly why Trump endorsed her, after all, to “check out the fake election results.” And he’s doubling down on his support. Just last week, he held a fundraiser for her at his New Jersey golf club! This is a candidate that Trump trusts to do his bidding.

And Karamo’s not the only one. There’s a whole coalition of election deniers—the “America First Secretary of State Coalition”—who have Trump’s support in tearing our democracy apart from the inside out.  

Thousands in the Stand Up community have sent letters to the editor of their local newspapers letting people know that our votes and our democracy are at stake in this election. Now, make sure everyone in your community sends in theirs.
