Last weekend was extra special. My son Rex joined me on the campaign trail in Dardanelle and Russellville.

We knocked on doors in the neighborhood I grew up in, met with the Yell County Dems, and talked to Arkansans about their top priorities.

I heard from a lot of people about our schools and how under-resourced they are. As the child of a public school teacher, a product of public schools myself, and a mom with kids in public schools, I get that. I want our teachers and students to have more support, and I’d love it if our legislators trusted teachers to teach and were more worried about the outcomes of kids in our state.

Right now, Arkansas children are suffering. The annual Kids Count Data Book released earlier this month showed us that our kids dropped in rank to 43rd in the nation for their well-being. All the while, our leaders in Little Rock spent their time giving tax breaks to the wealthiest and most well-connected people in our state.

People deserve to know they can count on their elected officials to do the right thing, and that’s what we’re proving on this campaign.

There are 11 weeks until the election. We’re in a full-on sprint now, and November 8 will be here before we know it.
