Dear friends,
We just passed our first two transformational housing bills of 2022!
That’s just the beginning. We have three more pieces of crucial legislation that need to pass by next Wednesday when the legislative session ends. We need your help to power our statewide grassroots organizing to bring home these housing wins.
If you’re able, can you chip in $20 or more today to help us turn these bills into law?
CHIP IN $20 »
On Monday the State Assembly approved SB 886 (Wiener), which allows state colleges and universities to build on-campus student and faculty housing projects faster and at a lower cost by streamlining the approvals process.
Yesterday afternoon the State Senate passed AB 2873 (Jones-Sawyer), which advances diversity, equity, and inclusion by requiring developers that receive state affordable housing dollars to report if the firms they contract with are owned and operated by people of color, women, or LGBTQ+ people.
When you support California YIMBY’s efforts to pass our priority bills, you’re helping to build a state where everyone can afford to live, work, and raise a family.
So here’s our challenge to you: As we turn up the grassroots energy to get our remaining bills passed by the August 31 deadline, will you step up to fund our advocacy and help us send these bills to the Governor’s desk?
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
Express Donate $20.11 in support of AB 2011, which fast-tracks new affordable housing on land zoned for commercial uses, and includes strong provisions for affordability, labor standards, and environmental protection.
Express Donate $88.60 to celebrate the passage of SB 886, which helps universities build student and faculty housing faster and at lower cost by streamlining the approvals process for housing on university-owned land that’s away from wildfire risk and not in sensitive habitat.
Express Donate $209.70 in support of AB 2097, which reduces housing costs and air pollution by eliminating expensive parking mandates on new homes built near high-quality transit.
Express Donate $222.10 in support of AB 2221, which clarifies state ADU law to make ADUs (aka “Granny Flats”) easier to build, especially in unused commercial space, in “missing middle” housing, and in existing single-family homes.

Your donation goes a long way at California YIMBY. We’ve been flooding legislators’ inboxes with constituent emails and phone calls in these critical final days. We’ve bought ads on Facebook and Instagram in support of these bills.
Our digital and communications teams have been activating YIMBYs across the state to ensure these bills get the support they need. And our lobbying team is working hard to gather the latest vote counts and working with our legislative allies to help get these bills passed.
Together, we have the people-power to end the housing shortage and affordability crisis in California – but this next week is absolutely crucial to securing a more affordable future.
Your support allows us to lobby, organize, and advocate in support of each of these crucial bills and will help shape the future of California for generations to come.
If you’re ready to chip in and fund our work, here’s the link one more time: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/cay22-q3
We’ll keep you updated with information and calls for action as the end of the session draws nearer. In the meantime, thank you for your ongoing dedication and support.
Sincerely,
Matthew
