Dear John,

At Verified Voting, we work to give voters a complete picture of how votes are cast and counted across the U.S. and we get a lot of questions about how long voting equipment has been in use. That’s why we’re thrilled to share our new
First Year In Use map to help answer your questions! ⬇️
New Map: First Year In Use

To view the national landscape, click on the “First Year In Use” tab on the Verifier and check out the map’s legend — you can see that the first year in use for equipment varies greatly in counties across the country. Click through to your state and county or use the toggles for standard equipment, accessible equipment, and mail ballot tabulation equipment.

Read more about why voting equipment's age matters for our elections in this report: Voting Machines at Risk in 2022, a joint analysis from the Brennan Center and Verified Voting.

Coming Soon: Post-Election Audit Laws
Audits are in the news a lot and our team is your trusted nonpartisan source on everything you need to know about post-election audits. We can’t wait to unveil our new map in the coming weeks that visualizes the post-election audit laws throughout the country from our State Audit Law Database.

We’re continually gathering new data and refining the Verifier so we can provide a more complete picture of election administration across the U.S., so stay tuned for more updates. If you like these new Verifier updates and want to keep our work up-to-date, accurate, and accessible, please consider a monthly contribution — or whatever you can give — today.

With thanks,
Warren Stewart, Senior Editor & Data Specialist
