John,
Last week, Governor Holcomb and Secretary of Education Dr. Katie Jenner joined the Lilly Endowment Inc. to announce Indiana’s largest investment in literacy programs EVER.
Staying true to Eric’s promise to Hoosiers, Indiana is renewing its commitment to supporting literacy under Governor Holcomb with a MASSIVE $111 million grant from the state and the Lilly Endowment.
This combined investment will support early literacy development using proven teaching strategies aligned with the Science of Reading.
The state of Indiana will use funds to…
- Support the deployment of instructional coaches to schools throughout Indiana
- Offer stipends to teachers who participate in professional development focused on the Science of Reading
- Provide targeted support for students who need the most help in improving their reading skills
- Create a literacy center focused on Science of Reading strategies
John, under Governor Holcomb’s leadership, Indiana is investing in the future and keeping our sights set on becoming one of the top states in America for education.
Needless to say, he’s very excited about Indiana’s partnership with the Lilly Endowment:
“Lilly Endowment’s incredible investment today represents a long-term commitment to Indiana’s long-term success … Reading is fundamental to each student’s lifelong opportunities, and it’s foundational to the core of our state’s future. This immense investment will make an enduring impact on our youngest generation of Hoosiers, empowering them with fundamental skills that they will carry with them throughout their lives." – Governor Eric Holcomb
This investment is a HUGE victory for Hoosiers and yet ANOTHER massive contribution to Indiana’s future from a nationally-acclaimed company.
Governor Holcomb can’t wait to see how it positively impacts the education of millions of Hoosiers for years to come.
Thanks for your support!
– Holcomb Crew
