Over the last few days people have asked me why we have to collect hundreds of thousands of signatures to get medical marijuana on the ballot just to try to legalize it. It's honestly a great question.

I have served on the Judiciary Committee for the last eight years and we have always advanced legalization out of committee but it is powerful lobby groups like the Nebraska County Attorneys Association that are run by my opponent that has spread misinformation about legalization and led the opposition and filibuster to common sense laws on the floor of the Legislature.

My opponent even charged Nebraskans with felonies for simple marijuana possession for years until a judge told him to stop.

That is one of the many reasons I am running: We need chief law enforcement officers that are focused on keeping our communities safe, and not focused on denying people medical care with their doctor. ([link removed])
