August 24, 2022
DEAR FRIENDS,
As you will recall, SHARK exposed the Easterling's cockfighting and rooster breeding operation (pictured below) in August 2020, see video here. In October 2021, the Feds busted them, see press release from the Department of Justice here.
On August 11, 2022, cockfighters and gamefowl breeders Brent Colon Easterling (pictured below), George William Easterling, and five other members of their family pleaded guilty to federal and state of Alabama charges filed in 2021 as “conspiracy to violate federal anti-animal fighting laws, including operating fighting pits on their properties, possessing thousands of fighting animals, transporting those animals across the globe for fighting, and trafficking in cockfighting implements."
Sentencing hearings for three defendants, believed to be Billy, Tyler, and William Easterling, are scheduled for September 29, 2022. Billy, Tyler, and William Easterling allegedly operate the Swift Creek Game Farm in Verbena, Alabama.
The sentencing hearing for Brent Easterling, the alleged ringleader and operator of the L&L Game Farm, also in Verbena, Alabama, is set for November 8, 2022, along with sentencing hearings for three other defendants believed to be: Kassi Brook Easterling (pictured right), Amber Nicole Easterling (pictured lower right), and Thomas Glyn Easterling.
You can read the plea deals here:
Brent Colon Easterling
William Colon Easterling
William Tyler Easterling
George William Easterling
Thomas Glyn Easterling
Kassi Brook Easterling
Amber Nicole Easterling
If convicted of conspiracy, Animal Welfare Act violations, and/or operating an illegal gambling business, the defendants each face a maximum penalty of five years in prison. Tyler Easterling additionally is charged with a single violation of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act for capturing and killing a Great Horned Owl. The Migratory Bird Treaty Act has a maximum penalty of six months in prison. Upon conviction, a federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
If you live Alabama, please contact your legislators and the governor ask that they strengthen the cockfighting law. Find
