A foreign criminal ranked as one of Britain's 'most-wanted' offenders was finally caught after an international manhunt lasting more than a decade – but was then inexplicably set free.

Cost of Living: Borrowing hit £4.9billion in July

Government borrowing hit £4.9billion last month as interest payments continued to rise amid soaring inflation.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said borrowing in July was £0.8billion below levels from the same month last year, but represented a £5.9billion surge from pre-pandemic levels in 2019, when the Government reported a surplus of £0.9billion.

Navy backs out of migrant patrols: Will not take charge of Channel dinghies crisis

The Royal Navy will no longer take charge of the Channel migrant crisis, it was reported last night.

The Ministry of Defence has told ministers that Navy ships will return operational control of rescuing migrants and bringing them ashore to Border Force on January 31.
