Dear John,
I really hope you've have a good summer and some relaxation as the school holidays come to an end.
Sadly the summer was also another reminder of the urgency to act on the Climate Crisis as well as the Cost of Living Crisis, both of which are chiefly caused by our dependency on fossil fuels. Greens have for decades pointed to the alternatives: we would be in a very different place now if our houses were properly insulated, or transport mostly car-free, and our electricity made sustainablily.
Mainstream parties, however, remain locked in the old ways, still merely paying lipservice to the issues that are most relevant to people and planet. The sad spectacle of the Tory leadership contest spells it out most vividly. You'd think it could not get worse after Johnson, but we can already see that it probably will.
More and more people want things to change, and they are ready to support Greens, our representatives and our policies.
At our next meeting, on the 5th September (sign up here), we will be discussing the next General Election. I'd encourage all of you to consider standing for the Green Party. Please get in touch if you like to put yourselves forward, or if you have any questions.
We are planning to select candidates for the constituencies in West Central at the October monthly meeting.
Let me also point to our brand new WCL Greens newsletter (at the bottom of the email). We launched this to share what is happening in the local party and will produce regular version from now on.
Please do get in touch with any feedback you may have, or even better: stories you'd like to see featured.
Best wishes
Fabian
