Dear Friends,

August has been a busy district work period! It’s been wonderful to travel around our beautiful district to hear your stories and to discuss the ways we can uplift our communities together.

One of the issues I hear the most about is mental health and substance use prevention. That’s why I’m holding a telephone town hall tomorrow, Wednesday, August 24 at 5 p.m. MT about mental health and addiction recovery. Join us by registering at https://fernandez.house.gov/live or call in at 833-988-1736.

Around the District

For the Social Security Day Of Action, I spoke with seniors at the Beatrice V.Q. Marquez Senior Center in Española. Social Security is an earned benefit, and I will keep fighting to protect it.

I had a wonderful time being part of the Good Jobs Challenge Roundtable with the North Central New Mexico Economic Development District to celebrate their $6.4 million grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration! This funding will help train underserved communities for healthcare and construction jobs.

I can’t think of a better location than Angel Fire for the National Veterans Wellness and Healing Center. I was honored to be a part of the groundbreaking for their expansion! Our veterans fought for us, and I won’t stop fighting for them.

It was lovely to speak the Salaam-Shalom celebration of peace in Santa Fe. It was a beautiful evening of connection and friendship.

Working for New Mexico

I was excited to present Curry County with $250,000 in funding to install an expanded WiFi network at the County Fairgrounds! This expansion will provide broadband connectivity to underserved families and children in the community.

I also joined the amazing folks at Roosevelt General Hospital to present them with $600,000 in funding to expand healthcare services. Rural healthcare is essential to our communities and our people. I’ll keep fighting for access to healthcare funding.

The Inflation Reduction Act is now law! It is the most significant investment in our people, lands, and seniors in decades.

The Inflation Reduction Act will:

  • Reduce the deficit by $300 billion
  • Lower emissions by 40 percent by 2030
  • Let Medicare negotiate drug prices
  • Close corporate tax loopholes
  • Not raise taxes on working families
