ONE-CLICK POLL:
Should we elect more educators to the Iowa Senate?
YES ([link removed])
I'M NOT SURE ([link removed])
John —
Today is the first day of school in Iowa. Between introducing legislation that would jail teachers and promoting voucher policies that would give public dollars to private schools, Iowa Republicans have made it clear that they do not support our public school parents, students, or teachers.
Here at the Iowa Senate Democrats, we will always support public education, and we are proud to have THREE candidates on our roster who are current public school educators:
* Matt Pries, candidate in District 23, is an English teacher and Literacy Interventionist at Waukee High School — not to mention being assistant girls track and field coach at Northwest High School and head boys cross country coach at Dallas Center-Grimes High School.
* Molly Donahue, who has taught for over 30 years at Washington High School in Cedar Rapids — the same high school she herself attended — is running in District 37.
* Tyler Stewart teaches social studies at Berg Middle School in Newton, Iowa, and is the Democratic candidate for District 19. He was motivated to run for office by anti-educator attacks from Republican lawmakers.
We believe the best way to make sure educators have a voice in our government is to send them to the legislature. Now we want to know what you think: should we elect more educators to the Iowa Senate?
YES ([link removed])
I'M NOT SURE ([link removed])
We look forward to hearing your thoughts!
