Our region is already experiencing the devastating effects of climate change every single day. We need to take immediate action to combat the climate crisis, and Derek is leading the fight in Congress.

Earlier this month, Derek voted to pass the historic Inflation Reduction Act through the House. Team, this is the largest and most significant investment in climate resilience and environmental justice in America's history.

Here's what the IRA means for the fight against climate change:  

• Invests in forest and coastal restoration, and resilient agriculture;
• Will cut pollution by 40 percent below 2005 levels by 2030;
• Will set industry-wide limits on methane leakage — oil and gas companies that emit above a certain level of methane across all operations will trigger a fee that will escalate over time;
• Invests in environmental justice priorities, including pollution reduction;
• Incentivizes domestic manufacturing of clean energy.

The IRA is a huge victory, but it should only be the first step if we're going to protect our natural resources and combat climate change for future generations.
