Last Friday I went to Netroots Nation, the biggest annual meeting of minds in the progressive movement, to speak with Latosha Brown of Black Voters Matter and Emma Hernández of We Testify about the Supreme Court's most recent attacks on our fundamental rights and how we can move forward to protect them.
As they spoke about the stolen Court’s impact on their work defending abortion access, voting rights, and more, a common theme emerged:
There is a deep disconnect between the right-wing Supreme Court and the will of the American people — the people that the Court is supposed to be serving. And none of our rights are safe as long as these far-right extremists control the Court.
Watch some of the highlights of our conversation below:
As we approach the beginning of another Supreme Court term where the hyper-conservative justices have given themselves the opportunity to rule on how our elections are run, whether universities can continue using affirmative action policies to ensure equal opportunity for all, the future of LGBTQ+ anti-discrimination protections, and more — it’s clear that we cannot let up in this fight.
Support for rebalancing the Court is growing — but we need your help to make our movement even stronger. Before the next Supreme Court term begins, can we count on your support?
We’ve seen how far the conservatives on the Court will go to enact their agenda, and it’s clear that we cannot truly safeguard our rights or democracy until we take back the Court.
Proud to be in this fight with you,
Sarah Lipton Lubet,
Executive Director, Take Back the Court Action Fund
