Women’s March started off as a protest — an urgent opposition movement to
a sexist, misogynistic, racist bigot in the White House.
That’s still what we are today.
Fighting for freedom, autonomy, safety, and justice for women will always
mean fighting the power: the patriarchy, white supremacy, and
authoritarianism. It will always be a protest.
The deck is stacked against women in this country and across the globe. In
the US, 1 in 4 women experiences severe physical violence at the hands of
an intimate partner. 1 in 3 experiences less severe forms of violence.
Worldwide, a woman or girl is killed by an intimate partner or other
family member every 11 minutes.
This is a movement for our lives.
American women are fighting for the fundamental right to bodily autonomy —
to decide the course of our own futures. Until we can control our own
bodies, we can’t ever be truly equal.
This is a movement for our autonomy.
The politicians who pass legislation banning abortion care (which also
ends up killing women and pregnant people) are mostly men, and mostly
white. At the federal level, women make up less than a quarter of the
Senate and 30% of the House, despite comprising 51% of the population. No
woman has ever been president.
This is a movement for our power.
In the 5 years since Women’s March began, we’ve recommitted to core
principles of intersectionality, justice, and compassion. We are a
movement for women of every class, race, religion, ability status, and
sexuality.
We will not ally with those who seek to divide us in our fight for a
feminist future.
This is a movement for a better future.
Now that Roe v. Wade has fallen, it’s time to recommit once again.
