The Washington Stand: News Grounded in Truth

Dear John,

Since our media outlet The Washington Stand launched earlier this summer, I've occasionally been asked: Is Family Research Council changing focus? Why hire reporters and leap into a new venue?

Rest assured: FRC remains a public policy organization, advancing faith, family, and freedom in society and culture. After a year of planning and significant work preparing for this website launch, let me draw an analogy to clarify our bigger move into media.

Consider Amazon, the world's largest retailer--which increasingly removes books touting the truth about biological sex, like Ryan Anderson's When Harry Became Sally . . . but we'll leave that aside for now.

For decades, Amazon used FedEx and UPS to deliver its packages. But then those shipping services stopped giving priority to Amazon packages. To improve its direct link to its subscribers, Amazon created its own distribution fleet.

In a sense, that's what FRC is doing. We are still a non-profit that puts forth research and analysis to help shape public debate and policy.

Yet, now more than ever, biased intermediaries--such as social media platforms and major news networks--censor or suppress our message.

At a time when the media can't be trusted, The Washington Stand is not just something FRC wants to do. It's something we have to do.

Will you help support and expand FRC's vital work of education and mobilization?

The Washington Stand is essential because, on today's major platforms, FRC faces increasing censorship.

In 2020, a text-messaging vendor abruptly canceled their long-term contract with FRC--just hours before a critical broadcast to inform voters about biblical issues.

Months later, another Big Tech vendor left our team in the lurch when they terminated online audio-hosting services at a critical moment. And just a few weeks ago, YouTube pulled a video of one of our Washington Watch guests.

Social media platforms claim to be the "town hall" of this generation. Yet free speech advocates have tracked how top social platforms Facebook and Twitter hide or outright ban conservative viewpoints.

To better serve Bible-believing Christians, FRC must cut out the middlemen and deliver the information directly and uncensored.

The Washington Stand already features original reporting, news analysis, and cutting-edge commentary on current events.

Thanks to FRC's grassroots network of connections and our experts' knowledge, readers are informed with angles missed in the mainstream. For example, The Washington Stand tracked over 100 violent incidents against pro-life groups and churches before and after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade . . . while the media stayed mostly silent.

Because sunlight is the best disinfectant, sometimes our reporting even changes the outcome of a story. It's truly a revolution in news.

For example, in early May, FRC reported how the city of Haven, Kansas, planned to remove "In God We Trust" from its police vehicles. Only one week later--following a petition by more than 19,000 FRC supporters--the city reversed its decision.

Look for a lot more in the future, like podcasts and exclusive video reports to complement Washington Watch, FRC's daily program that I've hosted for the past nine years.

Due to their bias that has been exposed over the past few years, the dominance of legacy media is slipping away.

What will fill the gap as viewers flee? FRC's The Washington Stand, alongside a faithful few conservative allies and partners, is providing better choices for savvy news consumers.

You can be on the ground floor of this vital initiative . . . in fact, we need you to be!

It takes resources to hire reporters and editors--and finding good journalists who also undergird their work with a biblical worldview is no small feat.

Even as it complements our policy expertise and grassroots network, The Washington Stand also positions FRC to be a go-to source for breaking news in a world seeking truth.

Thank you for your faithful support that enables us to be a light in a hostile world.
