Dear John,
A high ranking official at the County Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk’s office is being sentenced for illegally funneling contracts to his wife’s company. I will be at the courthouse on the day of the sentencing, August 30th, to underscore that all government contracts need to go through the legal vetting process and that something like this should never happens again.
To get to the bottom of this corruption, we need answers for these questions:
1) Was there a competitive, transparent and properly vetted process for these contracts?
2) How did this alleged theft of our tax dollars go undetected, and where were the “checks and balances” we expect from any well-run public agency?
3) What is the ARCC doing now, to uncover the extent of the alleged corruption, make sure any wrong doers are held responsible and put the right system in place to make sure it never happens again?
I have also filed a Public Records Access request to get information on:
1) The RFP that was issued in awarding the contract
2) The actual contract
3) All correspondence related to awarding the contract
4) All payments that were made
Corruption of this scale illuminates that it’s time for new leadership and a new direction at this office. Please contribute to show that you stand with my efforts to ensure that taxpayers’ dollars are not so grossly mishandled.
