Dear John,
I’m thrilled to report to you that President Biden has signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law.
We are living through a difficult era in politics and a frustrating, sometimes heartbreaking one for those who share my view that government can and should be a powerful force for good. But thanks to the fortitude and patience of my Democratic colleagues in Congress, to President Biden, to the activists and organizers who are in this fight every day, we have awakened to a different world and a new and better future.
There are provisions I have fought for over my entire career. Here are some of the top lines:
- Largest ever investment in combating climate change — $369 Billion.
- For the first time in its history, Medicare will be empowered to negotiate lower prices on life saving prescription drugs. This is life changing news for the 4.5 million Californians and 400,000 residents of San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. Additionally, all Medicare prescription drug costs will be capped at $2,000/year and insulin will be capped at $35/month.
- Nearly $10 billion to combat extreme weather, including $4 billion for Western States’ drought relief and $5 billion to make our forests and communities more resilient to wildfire.
I am so proud of this new law. It’s a historic commitment to solving our most urgent problems, but there is much more to do. If you believe that action like this — on climate change, healthcare, deficit reduction — is worth fighting for, I’d be deeply appreciative if you could make a contribution to support my reelection and that of my Democratic colleagues.
Thank you as always for your support and your activism.
Anna
