Bennet's GOP opponent is what Trump and McConnell want. John, There has been a lot of noise the past few days around Joe O’Dea, the GOP nominee challenging Colorado Senator Michael Bennet. Building on the shaky idea that he’s a “different kind of Republican,” O’Dea is attacking Bennet for rightly pointing out his hypocrisy on abortion and reproductive freedom. But O’Dea is just another waterboy for the radical Trump-McConnell agenda. In a speech, he said he believes abortion is ‘between a woman, her doctor, and God.’ But the fact is that extremist pro-life organizations are backing O’Dea because he would be a solid Yes vote on a federal GOP abortion ban. Joe O’Dea isn’t coming clean about his REAL stance on a national abortion ban. He confirmed last week that he voted in favor of the failed 2020 ballot measure that would have outlawed abortion in Colorado after 22 weeks (5.5 months). When pressed about whether or not he would support legislation that would further restrict a woman’s access to reproductive care, he said he would possibly vote “yes” on a bill that would cut off abortion access at 20 weeks. O’Dea confirms on his own campaign website that he would support the extreme anti-choice agenda in Congress—a letter from pro-life groups states that "Joe’s views — which includes strong and much needed restrictions on abortion — have much in common with us." How can voters trust what he might do or how might vote when we can’t trust what he says today? Colorado has sent not one but two pro-choice, pro-abortion access Senators to D.C. O’Dea is shifting his position now because he knows how to read the room: Colorado voters are strongly in favor of abortion access. We agree with Senator Michael Bennet’s strong pro-choice stance, and his commitment to vote for a federal law protecting the right to an abortion. We have to do everything we can to protect the Senate majority and stop the GOP from further endangering the lives of Americans. But we can’t get too comfortable. Last week, Cook Political Report moved the Colorado Senate race from “Likely Democratic” to “Lean Democratic." If we don’t keep our pro-choice senators in DC, lawmakers like O’Dea will seize on the opportunity to further limit access to healthcare and restrict our personal freedoms.
