** Grants Management 101 Class of 2022 Is Underway!
------------------------------------------------------------

Over the next five months, 120 GM101 participants will receive an in-depth orientation to the fundamentals of grants management, the philanthropic sector, and equitable, effective grantmaking practices. In addition to content-based sessions, they will benefit from a series of cohort convenings, facilitated by cohort advisors, which provide opportunities to connect in small groups, explore content more deeply, receive coaching, have accountability for growth goals, and form deep relationships with colleagues from across the country.

Thank you to this year’s cohort advisors for supporting the GM101 learning journey: (from left) Jennifer Burran, Margaret Egan, Adriana Jiménez, Adin Miller, Ursula Stewart, and Patrick Taylor.

A special thank you to NGOsource ([link removed]) for sponsoring!

** CHAPTER SPOTLIGHT
------------------------------------------------------------

** Diving Into Philanthropic Advocacy and Lobbying With PEAK Pacific Northwest
------------------------------------------------------------

The Pacific Northwest chapter led a riveting conversation about the basics of advocacy and lobbying in philanthropy. Melanie Mathews ([link removed]) from Brassington Consulting and Felicita Monteblanco ([link removed]) from the Northwest Health Foundation shared ways philanthropic professionals can legally and ethically advocate for the causes they support. They also shared some practical and simple ways to engage with local elected officials. Members learned the differences between political and philanthropic advocacy and lobbying and left the session with examples ([link removed]) for trying out much of what was discussed. Kudos to PEAK Pacific Northwest for leading the way!

** PEAK in Community
------------------------------------------------------------

The latest news about our sector partnerships and how PEAK is advocating for more equitable grantmaking practices at conferences, convenings, and community conversations.

PEAK staff were active participants in planning and presenting at United Philanthropy Forum’s summer 2022 conference. Member Relationship Manager Clare Larson, along with Phuong Quach of Northern California Grantmakers, coled a membership peer community roundtable session, where membership professionals from regional and national philanthropy-supporting organizations discussed dues structures, fundraising, volunteer engagement, and member onboarding and retention. Membership Director Sara Sanders helped select sessions and plan the conference as a member of the planning committee and acted as a volunteer lead for multiple social events throughout the conference. Community Knowledge Manager Chantias Ford participated in a panel conversation, “PSOs Collaborating to Advance Equitable Evaluation,” leading participants in a discussion on what might be possible if evaluation was conceptualized, implemented, and utilized in a manner that promotes equity.

Programs and Knowledge Director Lita Ugarte Pardi joined the panel on Center for Disaster Philanthropy’s webinar, “Beyond the typical grant: Alternative ways to fund disasters,” speaking about how funders can help strengthen and support organizations using fiscal sponsors, supporting grassroots and grasstops organizations, and how funders can adjust their processes in times of crisis.

President and CEO Satonya Fair joined Lita and Chantias for Peer to Peer (P2P) conversations with fellow Equitable Evaluation Initiative Practice Partners to delve into accountability, organizational culture, action bias, and being people-centered organizations.

** PEAK’s Job Board Now Highlights Postings With Salary Ranges
------------------------------------------------------------

To promote transparency and equity in philanthropy—and live our Tie Practices to Values ([link removed]) Principle—PEAK has strongly encouraged members to include salary information for all job postings. Currently, approximately 60 percent of postings to PEAK’s job board include salary ranges, and we are heartened to see more and more members embracing this practice. Member feedback has inspired us to add a new filter to the board that supports jobseekers in identifying opportunities with organizations that share this critical information: Show Jobs with Salary Ranges First.
