A redesign of the entire transit system will begin with Downtown, and planning kicks off today. We need to ensure that PRT is committed to expanding service and reversing recent cuts. |
When PRT released it's NEXTransit long-range plan last September, one of its top priorities was to do a redesign of the entire transit network. The agency recently announced that it would get started on that priority by beginning in Downtown, to get ready for the Oakland-Downtown BRT. This will impact 44 different routes at 23 different stops.
The process is still in the early stages, but we're putting one demand right up front: the redesign of our system must expand service and reverse the cuts that have happened since the start of the pandemic. Please join the two meetings this week to learn more about the redesign process and uplift this call with us. |

The website that PRT put together for this downtown network redesign is comprehensive. It gives some good background on different planning efforts and the type of information that will be informing their decisions - and lets you play around with different transit data. |

Hottest transit event of the season - the PPT Summer Party was lit! (PHOTOS!) |
After spending more than 2 years confined to digital, socially-distant organizing, people were so excited to see one another in real life. DJ Frank brought the tunes. Our friend Kyna from Kravings catered some incredible food. And members brought their dance moves and good vibes. Check out the pictures and read the recap. |

The Campaign is LIVE - UPMC: Pay What You Owe! |
Last Friday, Pittsburghers for Public Transit joined our allies to kick off a new campaign to get UPMC to pay what they owe the city in taxes. UPMC made over $1.4 Billion in profits last year, and they are the largest land-owner in Pittsburgh, but because they have filed as a "charity" they pay ZERO in taxes to any of the resources that supports them - like roads, sidewalks, schools, public works, or city staff capacity.
Sign the petition to Join PPT, Pittsburgh United, the Restaurant Opportunity Center PA, Pittsburgh Restaurant Workers Mutual Aid, Just Harvest and the Black Workers Center and demand that UPMC finally pay their fair share towards supporting our city! |
