Lenton and Wollaton East Councillors together with Lilian Greenwood MP met with the National Highways agency to discuss improvements to Derby road between Woodside Road and the QMC roundabout.
This meeting was requested by the Councillors following the deaths of two pedestrians some time ago.
Highways promised to meet local Councillors again soon and to discuss possible plans to improve facilities for pedestrians and cyclists and to improve flood mitigation and drainage at that stretch of Derby road.
Your local Lenton and Wollaton East Councillors have supported park improvement works completed at the Lenton Recreation Ground including the planting of new trees and a new pathway for all to enjoy.
To celebrate the completion of the improvements the council organised a community event on the 28th of May in partnership with the National Trust with plenty of activities available for families including Yoga, tree walks, community picnic, archery and garden games.
Further improvements are planned for the future so watch this space…….
Lenton Rec is also continuing to host 'Blossom Together' activities and events this summer, follow Nottingham City Parks for the latest.
We'd like to thank the members of Wollaton Park Residents Association for re-organising the event which was rained off during the Platinum Jubilee weekend. Pavlos and Sally went along and it was lovely to chat to residents.
(Below) Councillors were also delighted to celebrate the installation of the new History Board at Farndon Green and thank the volunteers who help to keep this area looking beautiful and keeping the Green Flag for a second year.
Nottingham City Council have successfully bid for money under the Levelling Up fund, which will go towards a 'Streets for People' programme.
The project will fund improvements in roads in locations in Lenton and Wollaton East over the next two years. Funding has also been allocated towards the replacement of street bins and urban greening.
Works start this summer on improvements at the Kennington Play Area for families to enjoy. New play equipment, improvement of the existing play facilities as well as a new noticeboard will be all part of the works that are going to be undertaken.
Children from the Southwold School took part in a litter pick of the play area recently with local councillors.
On the 21st June we were glad to join a large number of Clean Champions, school children from Edna G School and others for a litter pick in Lenton, a great deal of litter was collected. Thanks to all our Clean Champions for their commitment to the local area.
Community Protection together with licensing, local Cllrs, delegates from the University of Nottingham and the local Resident Development officer have been doing ward walks looking at the area for improvements.
Residents who live in areas where there are residents parking schemes will be receiving letters asking for their comments on the introduction of a charge for second and third permits. This is a formal consultation and we would be grateful if people would take the opportunity to express their views. If the majority of residents in an area wish to have the scheme removed to avoid paying for permits this can be done at the end of the consultation.
We had an update recently about the number of parking tickets issued in various key streets in the ward. Lenton Boulevard, Park Street and Harlaxton Drive were the places where most tickets have been issued in the last few months.
For several years we have been trying to get a more accessible entrance to the Park from Sutton Passey's Crescent.
Disabled residents have told us that the gate was too heavy and they struggled to use it. After discussions with the Wollaton Park Management team we were delighted to join them in celebrating the installation of the new gate. Unfortunately there were a few teething problems in the early days, but we think this will be a great benefit for local people.

We have been working with the Parks Department and the University of Nottingham to try to ensure that no further traveller encampments take place, particularly on Lenton Abbey Park and the Florence Boot field on the University Campus. We know these have caused concern for many residents and have affected the Forever Stars Serenity Garden. We have approved funding for fortification works to Lenton Abbey Park, and are hoping these can be installed soon, and we know that the University are developing their plans as a matter of urgency.
