Friends – By year’s end, a staggering 31 states will either restrict abortion access or ban it entirely. In some states there will be no exceptions to these bans. And in half a dozen Presidential battleground states, Republicans are trying to seize control of how elections are run and certified.
That’s why Barack Obama is right: It’s never been more important to support pro-choice, pro-science candidates to defend reproductive rights and our democracy.

We’ve endorsed and are supporting more than 100 pro-choice women with STEM backgrounds at the state and local level – more than at any point in our history.
We’re going to introduce you to four of them: But before we talk about Dr. Jasmine Clark in Georgia, Dr. Kelly Morrison in Minnesota, Michelle Gorelow in Nevada, and Lauren Bresnahan in Minnesota, can we ask for your help to support these four incredible women? One donation may feel inconsequential, but when thousands of donors step up and donate to local races, it can absolutely change the course of these races.
You might not know this, but campaigns for state and local office are significantly cheaper than campaigns for statewide office or Congress. Meaning your donation goes further – especially in states where control of the state legislature could come down to a handful of races like these decided by a handful of votes –
your support absolutely makes a difference!
Meet Dr. Jasmine Clark (GA HD-108) - Dr. Jasmine Clark is a lecturer at Emory University’s microbiology and nursing schools and has critical experience with research on HIV/AIDS.
In 2018, Jasmine flipped a GOP-held seat blue as a first-time candidate by just over 300 votes in one of the state’s closest elections by running on how her scientific and medical expertise would better provide for the health and wellbeing of Georgia families.
Jasmine serves as the Secretary of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus and has been a top sponsor on dozens of bills relating to reproductive rights, gun reform, criminal justice, and healthcare.
Georgia already has one of the worst rates of maternal mortality in the country and is one of only 12 states to refuse to expand Medicaid.
Jasmine is a top target of the GOP and needs our help to win re-election in this battleground district.
Meet Dr. Kelly Morrison (MN SD-45) – Kelly Morrison is a physician with decades of experience, a Yale graduate, and is the current co-chair of the Reproductive Freedom Caucus in the Minnesota Senate. In her first term, she has fought to protect reproductive rights and expand veteran healthcare.
In 2020, Kelly won re-election by just 313 votes – which makes her potentially the most vulnerable Democrat in the state. Kelly has committed to only taking individual contributions, meaning that every donation is that much more important to helping her defend this seat.
Currently, Republicans hold the majority in the Senate, but If Democrats flip just 3 seats we will flip control of the chamber and ensure that reproductive and voting rights are protected for years to come. We can’t do that if we lose Minnesota’s most vulnerable Democrat.
Meet Michelle Gorelow (NV AD-35) – Michelle Gorelow is a biologist and current State Assemblywoman in Nevada who is widely considered one of the most vulnerable Democrats in the state. For years, Michelle has worked for non-profits for expecting mothers on how to have a healthy pregnancy and prepare them for taking care of infants, toddlers, and young children.
After winning her first election in 2018, Michelle has supported legislation to reduce health insurance costs and established a maternal mortality review to help save the lives of Nevada moms, particularly vulnerable women and families who may not have the resources they need to access quality care.
In 2020, Michelle’s election was decided by 2,221 votes. And if Republicans flip a handful of seats like Michelle’s, they will win complete control of the Nevada State Assembly.
Meet Lauren Bresnahan (MN HD-45A) – Lauren Bresnahan has a PhD in economics and served Congress previously as an advisor on inflation, economic recovery, community development, and national security.
Not only does Lauren bring a wealth of experience that is crucial, particularly for state government, but she is also running for an open Democratic-held seat that is crucial for us to win.
Republicans only need to flip 4 seats to win control of the Minnesota House so our ability to defend our razor-thin majority here will hinge on races like Lauren’s.
Barack Obama issued a call to action: It’s never been more important to support pro-choice women at the state and local level. That’s why we’re asking if you’ll donate directly to Jasmine, Kelly, Michelle, and Lauren – four incredible women who will be running in some of the most consequential state legislative races.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will be immediately split between Dr. Jasmine Clark in Georiga, Dr. Kelly Morrison in Minnesota, Michelle Gorelow in Nevada, and Lauren Bresnahan in Minnesota.
Thank you,
