During my first term as Attorney General, I created a Civil Rights Division to ensure all Washingtonians are treated fairly. Here’s an update on the great work my team is doing.
We just announced a lawsuit against Ostrom Mushroom Farms in Sunnyside for discriminating against female farmworkers and creating a culture of retaliation.
Ostrom systematically terminated a majority of their female workers and replaced them with majority-male foreign workers, who have fewer rights than US-based workers.
Please make a donation today to stand with me. A contribution of $25 or more sends a message that Washington will not tolerate these illegal practices. >>>
From January 2021 to May 2022, Ostrom fired over 140 of its U.S.-based employees, most of whom were women with years of experience working at the farm. During the same period, they hired 65 temporary, foreign workers — all but two were men.
As the company was firing its female workers, it posted a job advertisement seeking “only males” to work at the farm. Yes — you read that correctly.
Ostrom created a hostile work environment for its female workers, pressuring them to quit with unfair production quotas, and retaliating against any employee who spoke out.
Corporations don’t like being held accountable. Not surprisingly, corporate special interests have worked hard to defeat me in the past – they will do it again.
Unlike most politicians, I do not accept corporate donations. My support comes from grassroots donors like you.
Can I count on you for a contribution of $25 or more today?
Thank you,
Bob
