Indivisibles,

Election season is underway. After years of challenging election outlooks and continuous campaigning, we are all looking for a little inspiration as to how to move forward. What does an inspired campaign look like in 2022?

Enter John Fetterman.

Fetterman is running for Senate in Pennslyvania against Trump-endorsed Mehmet Oz. Though Oz has no previous political experience and is mostly known for peddling controversial medical opinions on TV, this race was seen early on as competitive amid fears that Trump’s influence in Pennsylvania could help carry Oz to a victory.

Then the Fetterman campaign went to work.

They lambasted Oz for being an out of touch millionaire who was carpetbagging (the practice of running for office in a location where you don’t live), casting him as a tourist and even having reality TV personality Snooki from Jersey Shore create a cameo talking about his residency. They made stickers mocking how out of touch Oz is with Pennsylvania’s voters after Oz took a trip to a large regional chain supermarket, mispronounced it's name, and proceeded to get “crudité,” raising more than $500,000 for the campaign in the day immediately following Oz’ gaffe. And, most recently, they fact-checked Oz’ claim that he only “legitimately” owned two houses with the reality that he owns ten

The Fetterman campaign has been incredibly adept at pointing out the absurdity of a television personality worth up to an estimated $500 million casting himself as representative of everyday Pennsylvanians.

And Indivisibles got right on board.

This is what we do at our best. Find creative ways to remind voters that our opponents are so out of touch, so extreme, that there is no comparison -- for a full thread of the incredible work PA Indivisibles have been doing to win this November, check out this thread of just 24 hours of work.

Their work is creative. Their work is fun. Their work is topical. But most of all, their work is impactful. When we get out on the front lines finding new ways to call out MAGA extremism, we win.

Let’s use this blueprint to continue coming up with brilliant new tactics across the country and fill voters in our areas with both hope and joy.

With that, here are your weekly to-dos:

 Your 5 weekly to-dos

  1. Click here to register for a Give No Ground phone bank for Sen. Raphael Warnock on tonight, August 22nd at 7pm ET/4pm PT. We will be celebrating the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act with a phone bank to make sure we have the power to enact other impactful policy moving forward. Warnock won by just over 90,000 votes in his 2020 special election. We cannot afford to lose this seat moving forward.
  2. Click here to register to Give No Ground. The fight for our country’s future begins today. If we do not hold the House and achieve a real majority in the Senate, our plans to codify basic human rights will falter. To win, we must get the message out. Give No Ground is our home for opportunities to phonebank, textbank, canvass, postcard, and more so that when November comes around, we can say that we gave it our all for democracy. MAGA Republicans are mobilizing, but there are more of us than there are of them. Let’s make sure we show it!
  3. Click here to call your senator and tell them to pass the Marriage Equality Act. Following the Dobbs decision, same-sex marriage is now on the chopping block for the Republican Supreme Court. Recently, Senate Republicans blocked passage of the Right to Contraception Act reminding us that our rights are not only in jeopardy, but Republicans will actively refuse to enshrine them into law without pressure. We cannot allow the MAGA-led rollback of our rights to continue -- not while our senators have the power to intervene. Voting against the Marriage Equality Act would be wildly unpopular and put these politicians’ careers in jeopardy (which is why we saw some House Republicans vote with Democrats on it). Let’s make sure Republican senators know it too!
  4. Click here to call your senator and demand they pass the Markey Court Expansion Bill. Even as Democrats work to expand our rights, the threat of them being overturned by the Supreme Court looms large. We must expand the court after Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell conspired to pack it for generations to come. The only way to re-legitimize the court is to expand it. Contact your senator and, when you’re done, click here to contact your representative and tell them to pass Rep. Mondaire Jones' House version of the bill.
  5. Do you live in a rural area? Click here to join our National Rural Program. We have special election resources and calls specifically for our rural Indivisibles where you can learn more about strategies and issues specific to Indivisibles living in rural areas. If you want an idea of what that looks like, click here to check out our agenda and notes from previous meetings.

The work of defending democracy continues with your help. In order to keep Give No Ground running and to fund all of the work we do here at Indivisible, click here to donate today.

The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022

The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 is signed by Biden into law.

President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 into law last Tuesday.

This bill contains:

🌎 The largest investment in climate action in our country’s history 🌎
💊 The ability for Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices 💊
💵 Continued savings on ACA Marketplace healthcare premiums 💵
🚙 A commitment to reduce carbon emissions 40% by 2030 🚙

…And those are just a few highlights.

 National Events

Click here to register for the Deep Canvassing Phonebank to Conflicted Pro-Choice Voters (West) this Thursday, August 25th from 8pm-11pm ET/5pm-8pm PT. Deep canvassing is a proven method for persuading and moving voters to action even across ideological differences. In these phonebanks, we’re calling voters who are likely pro-choice but don’t always vote for Democrats, having open conversations about their stake in abortion access, and inviting them to act on their beliefs by voting for progressive candidates -- and we’ve been moving around 10% of voters we talk to, a massive electorate shift especially in close races! Please note this is a 3hr event: you’ll receive a 1hr training on deep canvassing fundamentals, followed by a 2hr phonebank + debrief for the Give No Ground candidate of your choice in AZ or OR.

Click here to register for Countdown to the Vote -- Truth Summit: Block Election Disinformation with the Indivisible Truth Brigade with keynote speaker Dan Pfeiffer on Wednesday, September 14th at 6:30 ET/3:30 PT. Disinformation poisons minds and prevents our society from moving forward to protect the people and the planet. Lies are spread to obtain unearned power -- it's as simple as that. Lies around voting and elections provide the path to that unearned power. Join us September 14th to learn which states, people, and campaigns are most vulnerable, and how we can and must disrupt voting-related disinformation. Leave this event inspired, clear-headed and focused on taking meaningful action. We’ll be joined by Dan Pfieffer, co-host of Pod Save America and author of Battling the Big Lie: How Fox, Facebook and the MAGA Media are Destroying America.

We are coming up on the thick of this midterm election period. Now is when we need to remain active. Now is when we need to get creative. Now is when we get out the progressive vote and win a real trifecta in November.

Let’s get to work.
Let’s make it fun.
