Hey John,
You're driving with some friends and a little weed through a state where it's still criminalized, when you get pulled over by a local sheriff… who decides whether or not to charge you?
If you don't know the answer — you're not alone!
We know the legal system in the United States can be pretty complex and intimidating. (For the people who benefit from it, that’s a feature, not a bug!) That's why we made a quiz so you're not left
completely dazed and confused by all the different elected justice roles and what they do.
Take our quiz to get the scoop on what the heck local legal system elected officials do. Not only will you be ready if the man gets you down, you'll be more prepared to vote and RUN for these offices.
Elected offices like district attorney, justice of the peace, and judge have all started to get more attention in the last few years — particularly with the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement. But these numbers show why they need a lot more attention:
About 70% of down-ballot races went uncontested in 2020. And get this: 90% of U.S. sheriffs, 73% of elected prosecutors, and 62% of county and municipal office holders are white men.
Now
that's something to freak out about.
So empower yourself by learning more about these local offices and take our quiz. Then, maybe when you're done, you'll want to Run for Something yourself!
Let's go,
