Of that historic contingent were two of my California colleagues: Katie Hill (CA-25) and Katie Porter (CA-45). Both flipped seats from red to blue in 2018 and have contributed so much to our Democratic majority, but both face tough re-elections in 2020.

A progressive champion for expanding economic opportunity, Katie Hill joined Congress after serving as executive director of a statewide program that addresses homelessness in California.

In addition to her experience standing up to Wall Street banks as the California Monitor of the National Mortgage Settlement, Katie Porter is a single mother of three. She’s already made huge strides to stand up and advocate for those who aren’t typically represented in Congress.

I am honored to work alongside such inspirational women and recognize that their unique experiences have added immeasurably towards moving the progressive agenda forward in the House of Representatives.

But, I also know what they -- and other first-term Democrats -- are up against.
