Dear friend,

From escalating emergencies in Ukraine and Afghanistan to the worsening
drought in the Horn of Africa, humanitarian needs are at an all-time high.
In moments like these, our response can make a real difference for each
person we reach with food, clean water, and other emergency aid.

We created our Global Emergency Response Fund to help ensure our teams can
act quickly and efficiently in countries facing some of the world’s
toughest challenges.

[ [link removed] ]Will you make your
first gift today and help us meet
our goal of adding $40,000 to this fund by August 31? You can help Mercy
Corps provide life-sustaining humanitarian response where it’s most
urgently needed.

Our Global Emergency Response Fund supports our work in 16 countries
facing high-priority, complex crises: Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Central
African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Iraq, Libya,
Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Palestine, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria,
Ukraine, and Yemen.

In DRC, a woman fills a container at a water point built by Mercy Corps
following the eruption of Mt. Nyiragongo, which destroyed the community’s
reservoir.

What does this sort of emergency response look like in action? Here’s one
recent example from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

In late May 2021, gray clouds of ash formed over the city of Goma as lava
poured down the sides of Mt. Nyiragongo. The eruption threatened lives and
damaged a critical water reservoir — amidst an area already grappling with
insecurity and recurring conflict.

For weeks after the eruption, Mercy Corps helped provide tanker trucks to
bring 235,000 liters of drinking water to more than 31,000 people in the
area. After months of working side-by-side with members of the community,
we successfully restored long-term water access to thousands of people in
neighborhoods in Goma.

This is how the fund can help Mercy Corps respond when disaster strikes,
and stay the course to help communities recover and forge brighter
futures.

Over the next week, you will be hearing from us about how your support
helps make a difference in places like DRC, Ukraine, and Somalia.

Global Emergency Response Fund will help us provide emergency humanitarian
response in 16 countries facing the most urgent crises.
