While our lawyers fight back, you can take action with us now.
ACLU Supporter –
Across the country, millions of students will soon be heading back to school facing censorship bills and other efforts that restrict their right to learn.
Florida's House Bill 7 bill for instance – also known as the Stop Wrongs Against Our Kids and Employees (the "Stop W.O.K.E" Act) – prohibits educators and students from expressing viewpoints around racism and sexism that are disfavored by Florida lawmakers. That's why we're suing.
The law violates the First and Fourteenth Amendments by imposing vague, viewpoint-based restrictions on educators and students – and violates the Equal Protection Clause because it was enacted to discriminate against Black educators and students.
Last week, our lawyers filed litigation to challenge this discriminatory law – along with the ACLU of Florida, the NAACP Legal Defense Fund (LDF), and Ballard Spahr. And as things unfold, we'll need as much backing as possible from activists like you who believe in our fight.
That's why I'm reaching out as our legal fight ramps up and asking you to take our pledge in support of students and educators' right to learn and teach free from censorship today: <[link removed]>

ACLU Supporter, rather than allow important issues around race and gender discrimination to be taught, debated, and explored in public education, Florida lawmakers – working with Governor Ron DeSantis – have moved to enforce their own viewpoints in state higher education with the Stop W.O.K.E Act.
The law targets and places vague restrictions on educators' ability to teach concepts pertaining to systemic inequalities, including around the legacy of slavery in America, white privilege, and anti-racism.
And Florida is just one of nearly 20 states across the country that passed laws aimed at censoring discussions like this around race and gender in public schools. We at the ACLU are already hard at work to put a stop to this attack on free speech and racial justice – from Florida to Oklahoma to New Hampshire – and we're not going to let up this fight any time soon.
But the more public support we have with us on this issue, the stronger we are – so please, take our pledge today and together let's defend every student, educator, and person's right to learn and teach freely. <[link removed]>

P.S. The ability to discuss and debate ideas is crucial to democracy. As students and educators return to school this fall, they should be empowered to have free and open exchanges – not censored discussions that erase the history of lived experiences of Black and Brown people, women and girls, and LGBTQ+ individuals. So please fight back with us – in Florida and nationwide – by signing our pledge now. <[link removed]>
