How did we get here?

2019: Gov. Brian Kemp signs a 6-week abortion ban into law. But because the Supreme Court then recognized the 14th Amendment as protecting reproductive rights, Kemp’s law is kept from going into effect.

2020: Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell rush through the nomination and confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett while voters are in the process of voting Trump out of office. Barrett is seated on the U.S. Supreme Court, giving conservatives a 6-3 supermajority.

2021: The Supreme Court agrees to hear Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, a case about Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban.

June 2022: The Court issues its ruling in Dobbs, overturning Roe and Casey, dismantling a half-century of guaranteed rights.

July 2022: The 11th Circuit allows Kemp’s 6-week abortion ban to go into effect, endangering Georgians across the state.

John, many women don’t even know they’re pregnant after six weeks. And this law will disproportionately harm low-income Georgians and people of color.

Kemp has shown time and again he has no intention to take care of our most vulnerable communities.
