Dear John,

Thank you. Thank you to everyone who volunteered on our campaign. Thank you to everyone who supported our campaign. Thank you to our incredible team. Thank you to my friends and family that supported me on this journey. Thank you to all the Houstonians who believed in our vision. I am so grateful for and humbled by each and every one of you.

While yesterday's result was not what we had hoped for and it will be a sad and painful few days, I am so proud of our campaign. I am proud of the all the young folks we engaged in the political process for the first time. I am proud of all the issues we discussed. I am proud of our focus on accessibility. I am proud of our focus on Building One Houston where everyone has the opportunity to reach their aspirations.

When I decided to run it was for one reason--to support students, families, and communities. While it was not my time to serve on Houston City Council, my commitment to this work and to the ideals of equality and opportunity does not waver. I am not sure what's next, but I know that I will continue fighting to ensure every student and family and community in Houston has the opportunity to succeed and to reach their dreams.
