Hi Friend, Iryna* didn’t want to leave Ukraine. Her daughter Nikolina* is just 10 years old – and it’s the only home she’s ever known. But with chaos unfolding just towns away – and her baby due soon – Iryna knew that home was no longer safe. She made the agonizing decision to flee, leaving her sick mother behind. The pair endured a frightening journey to Romania. “I was scared,” Nikolina remembers. “There were lots of soldiers. Some were holding machine guns; others were holding rifles.” Friend, there’s currently no safe place in Ukraine. For nearly 6 months, every single child there has faced the constant threat of physical harm, severe emotional distress and displacement. Send a message to President Biden and Congress: we must investigate the violence against children and families in Ukraine – and ensure those responsible are held accountable. This conflict is costing kids their futures. Education should provide children with structure and stability in times of crisis – but according to the Ministry of Education and Science, airstrikes and explosions have hit nearly 2,000 schools so far, with 230 destroyed beyond repair. To date, more than 350 kids have been killed during the fighting, and almost 600 more injured. Families are exhausted and running out of the basics they need to survive. Enough is enough, Friend. Every war is a war on children – and we cannot allow their rights to be attacked without consequence. Tell President Biden and Congress to call for and fund an investigation of rights violations in Ukraine and other conflict zones around the world. |
