[National Suicide Prevention Week - September 4-10, 2022]([link removed])

September is right around the corner, and as you may know, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) recognizes the month of September as National Suicide Prevention Month: a moment in time in which we rally the public to create awareness of this leading cause of death, and inspire more and more people to learn how they can play a role in their communities in helping to save lives.

This year, starting with National Suicide Prevention Week (September 4-10), we’re putting a spotlight on the Out of the Darkness Walks, and we want to get you excited to help us spread the word.

Just imagine if we could walk together toward a world without suicide. One in which we all have a greater understanding of mental health. One in which we all know how to be there for each other, including ourselves, when someone is struggling. A world in which help is more easily available, and we lose fewer people to this leading cause of death. A world in which everyone knows the love and support that exists for those in distress, and those who have lost someone to suicide.

Imagine if we could simply walk toward that place of care and understanding for those affected by suicide.

Together, we can.

Since 2002, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s Out of the Darkness Walks have brought friends, neighbors, family members and colleagues together to walk through their communities to raise public awareness and funds to support suicide prevention.

Twenty years ago, few could picture people coming together to walk for suicide prevention. Since then, roughly two and a half million walkers have participated in the Out of the Darkness Walks, covering nearly 20,000 miles.

September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and we want you to join us. Participating in an Out of the Darkness Walk sends the message that suicide can be prevented and that together, we can do more.

For a sneak peak at what’s in store this year, you can head on over to our [September web page]([link removed]), where you’ll find special social media graphics, resources, personal stories, and a calendar of events. We’ll be adding more throughout the month, and encourage you to share with the people in your community.
