Dear Georgian,
Last week was the one-year anniversary of the fall of Kabul to the Taliban in Afghanistan. Biden's botched withdrawal was a strategic disaster that handed an entire country over to terrorists, and the consequences will be felt for decades.
When asked for insight into what happened a year ago, General Kenneth McKenzie, former Commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), said the following:
"I will give you my honest opinion, and my honest opinion and view shaped my recommendation (to the President). I recommended that we maintain 2,500 troops in Afghanistan, and I also recommended earlier in the fall of 2020 that we maintain 4,500 at that time. I also have a view that the withdrawal of those forces would lead inevitably to the collapse of the Afghan military forces and eventually the Afghan government."
Because the President ignored the advice of his own National Security Team, Afghanistan ended in an epic disaster. Billions of dollars worth of U.S. military equipment was handed to the Taliban, giving them some of the most advanced weaponry in the world.
What's worse is thirteen service members were killed at the Kabul airport. These service personnel gave the ultimate sacrifice while trying to get Americans and our partners out of Afghanistan, and all their families are grieving their loss every day.
Please remember the fallen service members today, and join me in praying for their families and that nothing like this ever happens again.
As 2023 approaches, the House Agriculture Committee is working toward the next Farm Bill. This legislation shapes every aspect of ag policy and it’s critical that voices in the Eighth District are heard. We need to know what’s working and what can be improved. If you are a farmer, take a moment to provide feedback here.
As always, my staff and I are here to help. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my Warner Robins, Tifton, or Washington, D.C. offices. To receive frequent updates, I encourage you to visit my website, like my Facebook page, follow me on YouTube, and follow me on .
Keep reading for the full update.
Sincerely,
Congressman Austin Scott
