Dear John,
Before Louis DeJoy became Postmaster General at the USPS, he was a Trump mega donor. He's been under investigation for campaign-finance violations and conflicts of interest. He misrepresented whether or not the USPS would hire union workers to build new trucks and required the pressure of “green lawsuits” to increase the percentage of electric vehicles in the new mail fleet.
And now he’s announced he wants to eliminate 50,000 good paying USPS jobs.
Nearly two years after his nomination by Donald Trump, the USPS Board of Governors still hasn’t fired him.
With two more vacancies slated to open on the Postal Board in December, President Joe Biden must nominate Governors who will advocate strongly for the expansion of USPS services and fire Postmaster General Louis DeJoy. Send your direct message now.
There are a lot of reasons why nominating two new progressives to the Board of Governors is critical to the success and survival of the postal system.
Despite the passage of the Postal Service Reform Act which brought an infusion of cash, DeJoy still plans to raise postage prices at “uncomfortable rates.” Under DeJoy’s 10-year restructuring plan, numerous post office locations are set to be shuttered, impacting at least 500 network mail processing locations, 1,000 transfer hubs, and 100,000 carrier routes.
It’s not like these changes are working: on-time mail delivery declined from 92 percent to 61 percent in 2021, while postal rates still went up.
Louis DeJoy understands the damage he’s doing. He’s even bragging about it. He actually introduced himself at an event hosted by the American Enterprise Institute, a right-wing think tank, as "the evil postmaster general."
It’s hard to disagree with all the facts I listed above and we haven’t even touched the surface of his attempts to thwart vote by mail and undermine the 2020 presidential election.
Now is not the time for more corporate nominees who are focused solely on small-scale tweaks, service cuts, or price hikes -- now is the time for a visionary Board that will invest in building the Postal Service of the future.
President Biden must make sure the next two nominations to the Postal Board of Governors are up to the task of strengthening the USPS and ending the failed leadership of Louis DeJoy. Sign and send your message to President Biden now.
America needs nominees who will actively push the USPS to look at its long-term financial health and see that the future should include expanded products and services -- not privatization and slower mail delivery. We need nominees committed to establishing a green fleet of union-built electric postal trucks that will be better for mail carriers and the planet.
Let’s make sure President Biden knows we’re counting on him to get this done.
Thank you for speaking out to save the USPS from Louis DeJoy.
