We’re facing a battle between authoritarianism and democracy. We must not be afraid.

Friend,

On January 6, 2021, we all watched in horror as a mob inspired by Trump’s Big Lie stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to violently overthrow U.S. democracy.

What did the Republican Party do in response? They purged the handful of their own members who were willing to speak out against Trump’s Big Lie.

Of the ten House Republicans who voted to impeach Donald Trump following January 6, only two remain standing in the GOP. Meanwhile, proponents of Trump’s Big Lie are running for key offices that oversee elections at the state and local levels nationwideincluding in key battleground states that will be pivotal during the 2024 presidential race.

To save our future, we need journalism with the courage to take sides with democracy over authoritarianism and inspire grassroots action to fight back.

That’s why this is one of the most important fundraising campaigns Common Dreams has ever launched. Between now and September 1, we need to raise $75,000 to fully fund our news operation during this crucial midterm election.

Will you make a donation to help support the independent, nonprofit journalism of Common Dreams in these dangerous times?
