John – Prescription drug costs are killing us. Literally.
If you, like me, take any monthly medications to manage an ongoing medical condition, you have surely experienced this firsthand.
Not long ago, my co-pay increased by 337%(!!), from $74 a month to more than $300 out of pocket for a medication that keeps me alive.
As a diabetic, I am of course grateful that Congress finally passed a price cap on insulin – something they did with no help from my opponent, who voted against the bill.
But that bill was only a drop in the bucket of what we actually need.
First, it only applies to patients on Medicare – not Medicaid, not people on private insurance like I have, and not people who don’t have any insurance at all.
Second, the price cap ONLY applies to insulin. Over two thirds of diabetics, like me, are not using insulin. The rest of us control our condition with other, increasingly expensive medications.
Finally, what about all the other prescription drugs that are spiking in cost?
A recent report from the AARP found that the average out-of-pocket costs for prescription drugs has grown faster than the rate of inflation EVERY YEAR since 2006.
I believe healthcare is a human right, and that’s what I will fight for as your Senator. Can I count on your support today to help me FLIP this Senate seat?
