MANCHIN’S DIRTY DEAL TO FAST-TRACK FOSSIL FUELS
Our Revolution and progressives in Congress are organizing to stop Joe
Manchin’s newest dirty deal — which was written and leaked by The American
Petroleum Institute (API) — to fast-track fossil fuels and undo climate
steps in the Inflation Reduction Act.
“Why would Democrats reverse this momentum by enacting an API wish list
that will make it even harder for frontline communities to protect
themselves?” asked US Rep. Raúl Grijalva (AZ-7) in his op-ed in
[ [link removed] ]Newsweek Wednesday. “The answer is, we should not.”
Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer are ready to give Manchin and API more
pipelines and drilling, fewer regulations and fewer safeguards for
impacted communities — all packaged in a *must-pass* resolution to fund
the government.
Rashida Tlaib commented: “We don’t owe Joe Manchin anything.”
“If API tries to force passage of its proposal through the House, we will
fight against it,” wrote Grijalva, who chairs the House Committee on
Natural Resources.
Based on the API leak, the deal would curtail public input, environmental
review, and government accountability; require fossil fuel taking priority
for federal support; undermine the Clean Water Act; and more.
It’s insanity for our leaders to even consider this while hailing a
historic climate bill. Don’t hesitate to [ [link removed] ]contact your House Rep now to
make these demands —
* Don’t fast-track new gas or oil projects
* Don’t fast-track carbon pipelines
* Don’t cut environmental safeguards in fossil fuel projects
* Separate the fast-track vote from the must-pass resolution to fund the
government

Jasmine Crockett joined our [ [link removed] ]National Organizing Call on Monday to
discuss the path to building progressive power in Congress.
Jasmine urged our members to volunteer and support candidates across the
country, highlighting some of our huge primary wins with candidates like
Summer Lee (PA-12), Greg Casar (TX-35), and many others.
“The Congressional Progressive Caucus is already the largest caucus,” she
said, noting our growing numbers will help overcome the generational
divide in Washington. “Our policies are people-centered policies, and the
data shows it’s what the majority wants.”

Quentin Palfrey has a life of experience fighting for the underdog and the
full support of Our Revolution Massachusetts in his race for Attorney
General.
“With attacks on democracy, abortion rights, workers rights, racial
justice, a lot of challenges are falling to the states,” Quentin told us
on our [ [link removed] ]live broadcast Monday. “I’ll use the AG office to push for
Medicare for All, transportation, education, and an economy that works for
everyone.”
For 20 years, Palfrey has worked as an election protection attorney — he
founded Voter Protection Corps in 2019 and led efforts to stop voter
suppression ahead of the 2020 election.
Election Day in Massachusetts is Sept. 6.
Quentin took the People’s Pledge to renounce independent expenditures, and
he’s relying on all of us to get the word out for this primary election!

And, we’re proud to endorse Megan Green - a 2016 Bernie delegate we
supported for St. Louis Board of Aldermen last time around, now running
for President of the Board!
Megan is running to replace the former Board President who resigned after
being indicted under federal bribery charges. “Years ago I called out this
corruption, and now we have a lot of work to do to restore trust,” she
said on our [ [link removed] ]Monday Call.
Already in office, Megan has fought for a higher minimum wage, civilian
oversight of police, reproductive rights, domestic violence protections,
legal marijuana, and more.
If you’re in St. Louis, vote for Megan in the special election Sept. 13.
Help us call voters for Megan as she runs against big money to join the
progressives representing St. Louis - folks like US Rep. Cori Bush - to
move our agenda forward!

Our Revolution supports the re-election bid of NY State Senator Robert
Jackson in District 31, who has decades of experience fighting for
education equality, affordable housing, and a prosperous multicultural
NYC.
“I’m up against big money from hedge funds, charter schools, and real
estate trying to unseat me, but we’re fighting all the way,” Robert told
us on our Monday [ [link removed] ]Organizing Call.
From his time as School Board President to his 12 years on the New York
City Council, and now in the State Senate, Robert Jackson takes on the
tough fights for New Yorkers again and again - and never backs down.
Early voting is open through Sunday and Election Day is Tuesday (Aug. 23).

VOTE TUESDAY IN NY
NY State Sen. Robert Jackson is one of our many great candidates on the
ballot Tuesday in New York’s 2nd Primary of the year. Our Revolution also
endorses Sarah Blas (D-23) and Gustavo Rivera (D-33) for NY State Senate.
“Our lived experience matters, it’s time we say no to elected officials
raising money from corporations,” Sarah [ [link removed] ]told us last month. “We need
folks who will show up where it counts.”
As chair of the Senate Health Committee, Gustavo is a main sponsor of the
New York Health Act — which would create a system of universal,
single-payer healthcare in the state.
Our Revolution is also working to get out the vote for two candidates for
US Congress in New York: Brittany Ramos DeBarros (NY-11) and Melanie
D’Arrigo (NY-3).
Brittany is an Afro-Latina Staten Islander, former Army captain, and
anti-war activist running against a conservative Democrat who already lost
this seat once to a Republican in 2020.

Melanie is an active member of Our Revolution’s Long Island chapter, LI
Activists. She’s also a leader on Medicare for All with National Nurses
United and helped found the Sunrise Movement in Nassau County.
Shout-out to Our Revolution organizers with NYPAN and LI Activists - Joe
Sackman, Jenny Almanzar, and many others - who joined Melanie D’Arrigo to
knock doors at the Rock the Vote Rally this week!

statistical tie! Sign up for a phone bank shift - it’s easy and every

TAKING DARK MONEY OUT OF PRIMARIES
Last month, we asked Our Revolution members what you would change about
the Democratic Party.
Over 80% of you agree that dark money corrupts should be banned from
Democratic primaries. We heard you loud and clear, and Our Revolution
introduced a resolution this week to do just that!
We’ve already built a strong coalition of 33 DNC members, but to outweigh
the lobbyists in the party, we must demonstrate the power of this
grassroots demand every day up through the Sept. 10th voting deadline.
We’ve seen what dark money has done to progressive candidates like Jessica
Cisneros, Nina Turner, even incumbent US Rep. Andy Levin. It’s
outrageously anti-democratic and this one change would go a long way to
making it a fair fight.
[ [link removed] ]The primaries are strategically critical for progressives to take
power and replace corporate politicians. Chip-in now to help us BAN dark
money.

PRESSURE RISES TO CANCEL STUDENT DEBT
The student debt fight is ramping up NOW as the moratorium is set to
expire Aug. 31st. Joe Biden has just two months to fulfill his promise
ahead of midterms.
The progressive movement is leveraging the power of this moment to urge
the president to use his power and cancel student debt. We’re joined by
Progressives in Congress like Cori Bush, Ro Khanna, and many more who
declared that “the clock is ticking.”
“‘Medical debt’ is simply not a phrase you should hear in a functioning
society,” Our Revolution executive director Joseph Geevarghese was quoted
in [ [link removed] ]Common Dreams. “Same goes for ‘student loan debt.’”

WORKER BILL ADVANCES IN CA
GREAT NEWS! AB 257 - the FAST Recovery Act to give California fast food
workers a seat at the table - passed through the Appropriations Committee
Thursday and [ [link removed] ]you can help it pass the full State Senate this week.
Our Revolution activists and allies have worked for years for historic
legislation like this, and if we win in California - we can use this bill
as a model for workers to have a say in states across the country.
Angelica Hernandez, who’s worked at McDonald’s in Los Angeles for 18
years, told us on our [ [link removed] ]Organizing Call last week of an industry rife
with wage theft, sexual harassment, discrimination, violence, and health
and safety issues.
“I’ve faced retaliation because I raise my voice, but it’s worth it to
fight for my coworkers,” she said. “We want to live, work and retire with
dignity.”
[ [link removed] ]CALIFORNIA: CALL YOUR STATE SENATORS NOW
Half a million California fast food workers are on the cusp of victory,
but they need our solidarity and activism! We need to ramp up the pressure
THIS WEEK.
If you’re in California, call your state senators NOW to demand AB 257.
It’s a quick action for a big impact — don’t worry, it’s easy and there’s
a script!

employment standards while holding major food corporations accountable.
