It's been 102 years since women secured the right to vote. States didn't just grant that right freely; women had to fight tooth and nail for it. They won, but the fight for equity still isn't over.
Now, more than a century later, the wage gap continues to deny women the chance to fully participate in our electoral system. When Pennsylvania women are paid just 79 cents for every dollar made by men for the same work, it's harder for them to afford childcare, stable housing, food, education, and free time to build civic and political power.
We must end the wage gap to ensure women have an equal voice in politics. Senator Casey co-sponsored the Paycheck Fairness Act in the Senate to hold employers accountable and make it harder for them to hide wage discrimination, but Republicans have continued to block it and hold women back.

Pay discrimination of any kind is completely unacceptable. It deprives families of vital income that can be used to feed children, buy or rent a home, and make our communities stronger.
But it's not simply an economic issue, nor does it affect all women equally. People of color face an even greater pay disparity, with Latinas making as little as 49 cents per dollar made by men.
The wage gap denies women and people of color the opportunity to build power, organize, run for office, and have a say in political decisions that affect their lives. It's time to change that.
