Well, you may have heard, although it didn't get much mainstream media attention, that Congress agreed to a $738 billion NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act). The $738 billion is a sizable increase from last year, and is almost $150 billion more than 2016. But that's not the worst of it. The House version contained a provision that was aimed at ending the war in Yemen- the greatest humanitarian catastrophe in the world. It also contained a provision that blocked ground-to-air weapons sales to Saudi Arabia. Both of those provisions are gone. The U.S. will continue selling weapons to the Saudis and will continue its part in a man-made famine and massive cholera outbreak. Because it's profitable. And further, Congress has decided to authorize the creation of a space force.

So while homelessness is largely being ignored, while people are struggling with the worst inequality in 100 years, and a week after Trump cut spending to food stamps, our government decided to spend trillions of dollars on a space armada. Tell me what sense that makes. It doesn't make any! Ask anyone who knew me as a child, I have always loved space. I was into astronomy from a very young age. I am not against the space program. But militarizing space is an incredibly poorly thought out decision, especially at a time when that money is so needed elsewhere. How can our government tell people it can't afford to fund the food stamps program and then create a space fleet? How can someone, like Mike Thompson, who calls himself "fiscally conservative" and is a Blue Dog Democrat, possibly think this is a responsible way to spend our money?

And who will profit from this? Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, L3 Technologies, General Dynamics, Honeywell and Northrup Grumann. That's who. And yes, all of them have made multiple donations to Mike Thompson, adding up to more than $250,000. This comes a week after cutting food stamps and about 4 days after the Afghanistan Papers were published. This also comes on the heels of reauthorizing the expiring parts of the PATRIOT Act, ensuring that our fourth amendment rights will be systemically violated and passing the USMCA, Trump's reboot of NAFTA. So the Democratic "resistance" isn't resisting when it really comes down to it. They are complicit. They huff and they puff. They call Trump crazy and dangerous, say that he shouldn't have control of the military, that he's reckless and all the rest, but in the past couple of weeks they've given him everything he asked for, including a space navy. And Mike Thompson voted for all of it.

I want to say that I am proud of the 48 Representatives who voted "no" on the NDAA, which include some of the Congressional Representatives that I respect the most. And I'm proud of Rep. Ro Khanna for his statement on the removal of the Yemen provision which he fought so hard to get in there. I look forward to lending my voice to his and being a minority "no" vote on such injustices as this wasteful, murderous bill.

On December 9 (five days ago, as I write this) the Washington Post released the Afghanistan Papers. These documents reveal that the federal government failed to tell the people the truth about this war, telling the public that it was almost over, knowing that it wasn't. We wasted $2 trillion and many, many lives on this war that never had any objective beside enriching war profiteers, like the executives at Boeing, Honeywell, Raytheon, Northrup Grumann, General Dynamics, L3 Industries and Lockheed Martin- yes, the same set of weapons manufacturers that have made multiple donations to Mike Thompson. When taken in context, it explains why our country didn't exit Afghanistan after Osama bin Laden was killed. It explains why our troops continue to be stationed there, despite our own intelligence agencies declaring that there are less than 100 al Qaeda operatives in the country. And it explains why our Congress continues to fund this crime against humanity. Money.

The release shows that U.S. leadership was knowingly supporting pedophile warlords, that there was never an actual plan, and when taken objectively, that a major media outlet doesn't mind sitting on such a major story for almost FIVE YEARS! Mr. Thompson, I will remind you, sits on the Ways And Means committee now, but used to sit on the House Intelligence Committee and on the Armed Services Committee. And Mr. Thompson is always the first to point out that he voted "no" on the Afghanistan War, but he's also voted against withdrawing several times and is practically a rubber stamp for the war budgets. We've sent 775,000 troops to Afghanistan, and the money we have wasted could have provided housing or education. It is no accident that the only people who have profited from this debacle have donated massive amounts of money to our Congress, and probably our last three presidents.

What I fear is that this news story will disappear into a new cycle filled with Trump's antics, Kim Kardassian's underwear, NFL highlights and the latest episode of a popular television show, and this war will simply continue, despite the public acknowledgement that we're fighting it for nothing.

We're going to be kicking off a big advertising campaign on social media where we'll be promoting some of Mike Thompson's donors' info, so people who are not following our campaign can read about the CEO of Boeing or Wells Fargo. The more donations for that we get, the more successful it will be. We need everyone who can afford it to pitch in. If you can pitch in a few extra bucks for those who can't afford it, that's great. Let's show the people who are still supporting my opponent whose interests he's putting first.
Continuing the coverage I've been giving to some of my opponent's donors, I begin with Craig and Kathryn Hall, the Napa Valley's own oligarchs. The owners of Hall Wineries, the couple has held multiple high-dollar fund raisers for the likes of Nancy Pelosi, Bill Clinton and soon, Pete Butigieg. The Halls have given big donations to all of the Napa County Supervisors, resulting in weak protections of the watershed and weak enforcement of land use permits. They've also given to Republicans like George W. Bush, Paul Ryan, John McCain and Mitt Romney as well. Even to the National Republican Congressional Committee and several times to the Republican Party of Utah (they're not from Utah). The Halls have also made 26 donations to Mike Thompson, adding up to $30,993. Are these donations the reason someone who talks about fighting climate change didn't take a position on deforestation in Napa County?
Timothy Sloan was the CEO at Wells Fargo from 2016 until earlier this year. He was paid $18 million per year. Last year Wells Fargo took in $86 billion in revenue, down from the previous year. Wells Fargo's legal problems are becoming legendary. From misleading homeowners after the mortgage crisis to forcing the customers to buy unnecessary auto insurance to creating fake accounts in customer's names to wrongly repossessing active-duty service members' cars to securities fraud. Furthermore, Wells Fargo is heavily invested in pipelines and private prisons. Wells Fargo has donated 18 times to Mike Thompson, adding up to $24,000. Did big money from banks help our Congressman decide how to vote on bailing out the banks in 2008? Or on The Housing And Economic Recovery Act just 4 months before the crash?

Boeing, the federal government's second largest contractor, in terms of money, brought in $111 billion last year. They paid their CEO, Dennis Muilenburg, over $23 million. You know them as a manufacturer of airplanes, like the 737 Max, which was grounded in March because of two crashes in 5 months. Boeing is also one of the world's largest weapons manufacturers, and border security contractors. Boeing is one of the companies that have been lobbying for militarized borders and military interventionism overseas for decades. Boeing has made 19 donations to Mike Thompson, totaling $25,000. Is big money from weapons manufacturers like Boeing the reason that Mike Thompson has voted to fund military interventionism in places like Venezuela, Colombia, El Salvador, Honduras, Niger, Mali, Chad, Egypt, Syria, Libya, Somalia, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Georgia, Ukraine, Guatemala, Bolivia, and Yemen?
This is Geisha Williams. She was the CEO of PG&E from 2017-2019, making $9 million per year. PG&E, which brings in about $17 billion in revenue each year, was given half a billion dollars of taxpayer money to upgrade their infrastructure by the California Public Utilities Commission, and instead gave half of that money to their shareholders. The result of that, as we have all seen, has been public safety power shutoffs. PG&E gives a lot of money to a lot of legislators in the state of California, Mike Thompson being among recipients of the most money. In fact, PG&E has donated to Mr. Thompson no less than 50 times, totaling more than $63,000. Bill Dodd wrote legislation releasing PG&E from its responsibilities and Mike Thompson introduced, just about a week ago, a bill that upgrades PG&E infrastructure at taxpayer expense. Will taxpayers double pay for infrastructure and absolve PG&E of responsibility due to campaign donations?
