RAWA is led in the House by SEEC Member Rep. Debbie Dingell. She and her fellow SEEC members want to bring more bipartisan wins like this in Congress but they’ll need your support to do this, [FIRST/team].
John — Defending wildlife from the threat of climate change means more than just focusing on the polar bears and blue whales. It’s about looking at every mammal, fish, and even insect within an ecosystem and assessing their risk rate.
The truth of the matter is that we don’t have a lot of data on the less obviously threatened species out there, which means we don’t know how they are coping with a changing climate. A lack of data means that we’re completely in the dark about determining if thousands of species are at risk. The good news is that a recently published study in Communications Biology has deployed a machine learning algorithm to help bridge the gap. The bad news? The study finds that 56% of these underresearched species are at risk of disappearing entirely thanks to a warming climate.
John, it may be too late to stop climate change entirely, but there is still time to save these under-the-radar animals from its worst effects. Every fraction of a degree of warming we prevent is the difference between species surviving or going extinct.
We’ve had success before saving endangered species. Without the Endangered Species Act, we would’ve lost the humpback whale, the American alligator, the grizzly bear, and the California condor.
Thanks to your help in 2020, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration. But if you'd like to receive fewer emails, we understand. You can click here to only get our most important messages, or you can unsubscribe.
