Hi Friend,

Have you ever bought a new car, got a new cell phone, or booked a flight through Priceline?

Chances are you saw what you owed upfront, including price, negotiated rates, and any potential out-of-pocket costs. By having this information in advance, you could shop around, compare plans, and prepare a budget.

That’s what price transparency is, and that’s why it is so important we get price transparency injected into our healthcare system.

Now we have a chance. The administration just introduced new rules, the latest of a series of rules to deliver price transparency to health care.

The proposed rules would require that insurance companies and health payment groups:
  • Give you access to healthcare prices you’d be charged BEFORE you receive care, so you can compare and choose what works best for you.
  • Publicly post their prices for all covered benefits, including their negotiated rates, out-of-pocket estimates, and out-of-network prices.
  • Post quality metrics about the healthcare providers, as well as your own electronic health information, in a real-time, easy-to-access, digital format.
Friend, the administration needs to hear from you on their latest rules before enacting them. Submit your comments by 11:59 p.m. on January 14, 2020.

These rules would mean: no more guessing which provider has the best quality; no more surprise, exorbitant hospital bills; and no more searching for old medical records.

This would drive down prices, increase competition, establish a true marketplace for health care, and ultimately improve health insurance rates and quality of care.

Act now: Submit your comments supporting these price transparency rules by the January 14th deadline.

Thanks,

Hadley Heath Manning
