Can I explain something, John?

Let’s call it Campaign Finance 101.

When a United States senator is sworn into office, we get an office budget, paid for by taxpayers, that’s used for official Senate business — operating district offices, providing constituent services, doing case work, and paying Senate staff. We do everything we can to stretch every dollar to best serve every New Jerseyan.

Then there’s the campaign budget — not a penny of taxpayer money. Completely funded by donors, for us to run ads, connect with voters, hire a campaign team, print flyers, old-fashioned mail, yard signs, and much more.

For some of my colleagues, funding their campaign budget means going to Big Pharma, the fossil fuel industry, and corporate lobbyists and asking them to write big $2,900 checks, the maximum amount allowed for federal campaign contributions.

Not us, though. When I flew to Wisconsin earlier this summer campaigning to flip a Republican-held Senate seat, it was thanks to support of grassroots donors like you.

And it will be thanks to more of your contributions that I’ll be hitting the campaign trail again in these final few weeks of the midterm election, which will decide the 50-50 Senate majority.

That’s the 101 on campaign finance, and it’s why it’s so important that folks like you are a part of our movement.

So I’m asking:

Will you pitch in $10 to our people-powered campaign so that I can continue doing everything possible to defend and expand our Senate majority this fall? Our campaign is supported by thousands of folks like you chipping in a few bucks at a time to go toe-to-toe with Mitch McConnell and defend our progress. [[link removed]]

Even if it’s just a few bucks, it makes an enormous difference — because there are so many folks like you who share our commitment to building a more just, loving nation for all.

Thanks for your support,
