It was seven years ago today that a shooter took the lives of 20 children -- only six and seven years old -- and six adult staff members at Sandy Hook Elementary School. If still here today, those children would be eighth graders.

As a nation we were heartbroken, shocked, and angry. We still are. Many of us hoped that our leaders would work together to finally break the partisan gridlock and pass meaningful, common-sense gun control reform so that nothing like it would ever happen again.

But since Sandy Hook and every tragedy after, politicians have repeatedly failed the American people. Through simple inaction -- and in some cases more sinister obstruction thanks to lobbying from the gun industry -- elected officials have failed to keep our children safe.

Right now Senator McConnell has multiple bills on his desk that Suzan voted to pass that can help us curb senseless gun violence. On today's anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting, please call on McConnell to act.

Right now -- before, not after, the next tragedy -- is the time for us to act to protect our communities from this senseless cycle of gun violence.

Suzan was proud to be a co-sponsor of the Assault Weapons Ban Act, and she voted yes to send a universal background checks bill through the House. The House also re-authorized the Violence Against Women Act to protect survivors of domestic abuse and make sure people with a history of violence can't get their hands on a weapon.

John, our nation is stuck in a cycle of senseless violence that we can help prevent. It's time lawmakers like McConnell put the American people first. So please join Suzan in demanding action today. Add your name.

PS - Today's anniversary can be an extremely difficult day for the countless families, friends, and loved ones touched by the Sandy Hook tragedy. If you are able, please consider making a donation to the Sandy Hook Promise -- a nonprofit founded and led by the loved ones of those killed at Sandy Hook.
