Hi John,
When I was a kid, my dad would come home at midnight with paint in his jet black hair. I would sit behind him and pick the paint out of his hair. This was the time I got with my father each day.
My father’s hard work inspired me to start organizing to ensure every worker was treated with dignity and received a living wage. As a student at the University of Pennsylvania in 2008, I learned our university had $15 million invested in a hotel management company that was exploiting its workers. After 3 years, our student group forced a public statement that we would divest from the company. Nine universities followed and workers won a union. I finished college and organized on another half dozen campaign victories.
I asked myself, “What if we kept track of every single person we’ve talked to, and invited them to take action?”
Since then, I’ve done analytics for electoral campaigns ranging from the local to national level. I ran a people-centered, data-driven Latinx organizing program for Planned Parenthood. And as National Field Director for Global Trade Watch, I used Action Network to recruit 700 people in 48 states to do boots-on-the-ground organizing, in a matter of months.
Since May 2018, I’ve been directing partner development for Action Network. You can follow our work on Facebook and Twitter. I’d love to follow you too, so please send me your handles!
In Solidarity,
Rose Espinola
Director of Partner Development
