Learn more about what my office has been up to this week Dear john, This week, President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law. In addition to celebrating the success of this landmark legislation, I was pleased to share the news this week that the Food and Drug Administration has issued a final rule to make hearing aids available over the counter for those who need them. This is estimated to result in a savings of nearly $3,000 for every hearing aid purchase. As the August District Work Period continues, I enjoyed a week full of visits with local governments, nonprofits, and businesses who are doing truly extraordinary work in our community. Here is a recap of my week: This week marked 87 years of Social Security. To celebrate, I welcomed state leaders from AARP to discuss the needs of over 100,000 beneficiaries in our district. I am fighting hard in Congress to protect your Social Security and defend this vital program against cuts and reductions. On Tuesday, I started my day visiting Fulton County's Big Creek Water Reclamation Site. As our community continues to grow, it is critical that we provide Fulton County residents with clean water and return clean water back to the environment after we use it. I am so proud of the innovative public works projects happening in Fulton County! Later on that day, I went to Randstad North American Headquarters to learn more about their Hire Hope initiative. This program provides career-readiness training and job-placement services to underserved and at-risk women through a 35-week program. I was honored to speak with current students from this program and offer words of encouragement as they navigate a career change in their life. On Wednesday, I sat down with the Mary Hall Freedom Village to learn more about the work they do to serve hundreds of women and children in the Sandy Springs area. I was privileged to receive a tour of their new facility which will provide daycare, medical, and treatment services for their clients. I look forward to celebrating their grand opening later this year! On Friday, I was honored to visit the Johns Creek Veterans Memorial Walk. This trail is lined with monuments that pay homage to each conflict since the first World War and feature recognition for Purple Heart Recipients, POW/MIAs, and Women in Service. The Memorial Walk is a beautiful tribute to those who serve or have served in our armed forces, and I was grateful to tour it with members of the Johns Creek Veterans Association.
