On January 6th, 2021, domestic terrorists intent on minority rule staged an insurrection and attacked our nation’s Capitol. They failed — but only barely. And if the revelations of the January 6th committee are any indication, they will try again — unless they are held accountable.

They will try again because they have been emboldened by some members of the Republican Party — including Senator Ron Johnson — who refuse to acknowledge that an insurrection took place, and have contributed to the lies and misinformation around January 6th.

Ron Johnson even reportedly participated in a scheme to rig the election results for Donald Trump by delivering a list of fake electors to Mike Pence.

The citizens of Wisconsin deserve better than Ron Johnson.

The health of our democracy is not a given and should not be taken for granted. And right now, our democracy is at extreme risk. I say this not to be hyperbolic, but to remind us all of just how much is at stake in this year's midterm elections, especially in Wisconsin's U.S. Senate race.

With the slimmest of majorities in the U.S. Senate, it has never been more important for Democrats to flip Republican-held Senate seats like the one that Mandela Barnes is running for in Wisconsin.

That's why today, I would like to ask you to do something important to put Mandela in the best possible position to win this race.

Will you contribute to Mandela Barnes' campaign for U.S. Senate in Wisconsin? Any amount you can afford to give will help him defeat Ron Johnson in November.

I believe in the American experiment, and I believe in this country. It is candidates like Mandela Barnes who give me hope that we can create the kind of democracy we know we can become. But let's not forget that our political system is being tested right now.

With so much on the line in Wisconsin's U.S. Senate race, we cannot be caught asleep at the wheel. We must fight with everything we've got to help elect Mandela Barnes and defend the Democratic Senate majority.
