John,

I recently wrote to you about Steve King’s former chief of staff Brenna Bird running for Iowa’s Attorney General. She’s not the only rightwing extremist trying to gain power in my home state of Iowa.

We have a new king of bigotry in town and his name is State Rep. Jeff Shipley. Jeff has repeatedly attacked the LGBTQ community, going as far as claiming that trans folks have mental illnesses. He even had the audacity to ask whether Vice President Kamala Harris would push the nuclear button given the chance.

People like Jeff Shipley are exactly what’s wrong with our divisive politics today. We need responsible leadership that’ll go to bat for families – not bullies who attack our fellow Americans.

That brings me to Jeff’s opponent, Mike Heaton. Heaton is a Dirt Road Democrat and small business owner who cares deeply about his rural community in Southeast Iowa.

Mike and I both believe that Democrats have not invested enough in rural areas of the country. That's why when we have good rural Democrats like Mike Heaton stepping up to the plate, we need to have their backs and help them win.

We can make inroads in rural America by supporting Democrats like Mike Heaton. Will you split a donation between my campaign and Mike’s campaign for the Iowa State House?

America and Iowa can’t afford another bully looking to make headlines. We need responsible leadership that’s focused on finding solutions to our problems, not trying to divide us based on our differences.

Standing Tall for All,
