Sheila’s story is not a typical politician’s. Raised by working class parents who sacrificed everything to give their daughter a chance at success, Sheila went on to found a wildly successful healthcare company and become a powerful force in her South Florida community.

In her work as a home-healthcare provider, Sheila provided vocational medical training and helped families learn how to care for their loved ones at home. Witnessing first-hand the hardships families endure when for-profit insurers deny essential care, she became an early advocate for universal healthcare.
Brand New Congress made history with Sheila’s overwhelming victory in January. She’s the first Haitian-American to represent Florida – a state with more than half a million Haitian immigrants – in Congress. She’s also the first Black woman to represent this majority Black district.
